The thermostat tells your whole system what to do. When it reads the wrong temperature, loses its settings, or stops calling for cooling, a perfectly good air conditioner looks broken. A new programmable or smart thermostat, set up correctly, can also cut run time and keep humidity in check.

We install programmable and smart thermostats and set them up to match your system: single-stage, two-stage or variable-speed equipment, heat pumps with auxiliary heat, and systems with separate humidity control. A thermostat that doesn't match the equipment can short cycle the compressor or bring on expensive backup heat when it isn't needed, so we wire and configure it for the system you have.
New systems we install come with a thermostat matched to the equipment, such as a Honeywell touch screen thermostat on our two-stage split systems and an Econet touch screen thermostat on inverter systems (see our rates).

Thermostat problems are some of the most common calls that turn out not to be the air conditioner at all. Call us if you notice any of these:
- The screen is blank or keeps resetting
- The house is warmer or cooler than the setting
- The system won't turn on, or won't turn off
- Short cycling: the AC runs a few minutes, stops, and starts again
- Heat mode blows cool air or only works in emergency heat
Sometimes the fix is batteries, a loose wire or a setting. Sometimes the thermostat is fine and the real problem is a failed control board or a tripped float switch on a clogged drain line.
